The reading and mathematics probes will be administered during class. There will be no disruption to your schedules.
For math, students in 1-5 grades will take the CBMmath Automaticity and CBMmath CAP.
CBMmath Automaticity is a timed computer-based assessment of math fact mastery. It measures a student's automaticity with basic math facts. It is timed for up to 4 minutes depending on the level. CBMmath CAP is a timed computer-based assessment of applied and multi-step mathematics skills. It consists of math problems aligned with the Common Core State Standards. The amount of time given is based on grade level. Students in K-3rd grade test for about 15 minutes and students in 4th and 5th grade test for about 20 minutes.
Students in 2nd-5th grade will also take the CBMmath Process test. The CBMmath Process test is a timed paper-based measure of multi-step mathematics problems. Each administration is timed based on grade level. Grades 2-3 is 10 minutes and grades 4-6 is 15 minutes.
For reading, students in grades 2-5 will complete 3 one minute reads. Students in grade 1 will complete 2 early literacy prompts. One of the district specialists individually monitor the number of words read correctly and document errors. The middle score is used and normed.
After we gather data, the district creates a data matrix and holds data meetings. Fastbridge is one of the data points that we use in the matrix. This allows us to determine which students may need interventions and which students would benefit from enrichment opportunities. I liken this to a “check-up” with the doctor. A moment in time capturing overall reading and math health.
It is critically important that you do not assist your child while completing these assessments. If you are to do so, the data will not be usable.
